Union Budget 2022-23 updates on the Agricultural sector

The Finance Minister announced the use of Kisan Drones in the agricultural sector. These drones will be used for-

  • Crop assessment
  •  Land records
  •  Spray of insecticides

Citing ‘inclusive development’ as a top priority of the Government she announced for procurement of 1000 lakh metric tonnes(LMT) paddy which shall benefit the farmers producing Paddy, Kharif, and Rabi crops.

The Finance Minister announced the following measures for the growth of the agriculture sector-

  • Allocation of Rs 2.37 lakh crore for purchase of wheat and paddy under MSP operations.
  •  A river linking project in Ken Betwa with an estimated cost of Rs 44,605 crore.
  • Implementation of expansion of domestic oilseed production to reduce imports.
  • Completion of Five river linkages' draught DPRs.
  •  Setting up of start-ups in rural areas.

NABARD shall oversee the finance requirements of the start-ups. This step is focused on generating employment in the rural areas making the rural youth capable of bearing Covid 19 like consequences in the near future. The infrastructure development in the rural areas has been a key highlight in the budget 2022-23.

 The Government has made provisions for the farmers and the youth to make them self-sufficient through the inclusion of technology to help in crop productivity and the development of infrastructure for sustainable career opportunities.
